5 years vegan. Never looking back.
March marks my 5 year vegan anniversary but it honestly feels like I’ve been following this lifestyle for way longer. Maybe it’s because my heart has been all in since the very beginning. I’m unapologetic in this pursuit to give the animals the lives that they deserve. I believe in a future where we co-exist peacefully with all beings in this beautiful world we live in. There’s nothing to lose and everything to gain from this lifestyle—a new appreciation and connection to real food without the suffering of animals or harm to our planet.
Vegucated— For The Animals
My curiosity was initially sparked for health reasons but it was the animal-cruelty aspect of veganism that solidified my decision to start living consciously. A clip on factory farming from the documentary Vegucated changed my perception. I knew I wanted no part in contributing to the suffering of innocent lives. So many people avoid watching things like this because it’s REAL LIFE. We look away when animals suffer because it’s uncomfortable. We get this nauseating feeling deep in our gut when we realize we’re contributing to it. We can feel their pain and it hurts like a sharp knife stuck inside our chest. We feel like this because we’re inherently compassionate beings. I know that compassion lives inside all of us and that’s why we remove the connection from what’s really on our plate.
We’re used to seeing meat, eggs and cheese as something we eat minus the story behind the innocent animal’s life whose sole purpose was to become our food. Some people will ask what about ‘humane’ meat, but there’s no such thing. What right do we really have to say that an animal has to die at any point in their life to serve us? They’re born into slavery because we decided humans are superior and we belong at the top of the food chain.
My New Vegan Tattoo
In addition to celebrating 5 years Vegan, this tattoo symbolizes my commitment to saving animals, dedication to the vegan lifestyle and helping others to understand why veganism is so important. I’m finally living life with purpose and relentless passion towards a cause greater than me.
It’s important to note that tattoo inks can be made with animal products like bone char, glycerin from animal fat, gelatin from hooves, or shellac from beetles. It’s a good idea to ask your tattoo artist ahead of time about the inks and razors as some may have a gel strip that contains glycerin.
I know for most people it takes small steps and little changes over time to adopt a vegan lifestyle. If you’re looking for a place to start you can do so by researching factory farming and watching a documentary. Watch my “Reasons To Go Vegan” playlist on YouTube. Give Meatless Monday a try, incorporate one plant-based meal a day or do a 21 day vegan challenge. As always, thank you so much for being here. It means the world that people want to hear what I have to say! Much love!! X
