For those that are already using Coconut Secret’s raw, organic, vegan and GMO-free coconut aminos and coconut vinegar – how amazing are these products?! If you’re not familiar with them, they can be used as healthy alternatives to some of your every day ingredients or even added to your regular beauty regimen. Believe it or not, coconuts produce much more than just coconut water, coconut milk and coconut meat. Although coconuts are commonly used in sweet dessert recipes, I’ve discovered some coconut products that can actually be used in savory dishes.
The company that creates these products is Coconut Secret. Aside from these two products I’m reviewing today, their product line also includes teriyaki sauce, garlic sauce, coconut crystals and coconut nectar.
Coconut Secret Coconut Aminos
As many of my Instagram followers already know, I love using coconut aminos! It’s 100% raw, organic, vegan, gluten-free and soy-free. If you take a look at my recipes you’ll notice that I use it in my dipping sauces, dressings and marinades. Most of my recipes also incorporate Asian inspired flavors, so its no wonder coconut aminos frequently makes appearances in my ingredient line-up.
This seasoning sauce is an amazing low sodium alternative to soy sauce. I’m pretty sure I will never be able to go back to regular {salt-loaded} soy sauce after discovering coconut aminos. I am completely content with dipping my sushi or rice paper rolls directly into a sauce dish of coconut aminos.
The sauce contains 17 naturally occurring amino acids and is made from only 2 ingredients: raw coconut tree sap and mineral-rich sea salt. Using coconut aminos in my recipes allows me to incorporate salty flavoring, without over doing it. There is a very mild sweetness to the sauce; a quality I really enjoy.
After adopting a predominantly raw food diet, my palate has changed significantly. I now have a very low tolerance for sodium and coconut aminos contains 65% less sodium than regular soy sauce. This is one of the many reasons coconut aminos is so appealing to me and is one of my go to seasonings.
Coconut Secret Coconut Vinegar
Another ingredient that I use frequently is apple cider vinegar, which can be overwhelming in recipes at times. Coconut Secret coconut vinegar could not have come into my life at a better time. I’m so happy I can switch things up now with this milder and slightly sweeter alternative. It’s also 100% raw, organic, vegan and gluten-free.
It is made from nutrient-rich coconut tree sap. This coconut-based vinegar has a mildly sweet taste compared to other water-based vinegars with much less tang too. Aged over 8 -12 months, the coconut sap vinegar is naturally produced with no alterations during that time. This natural fermentation process helps to retain and enhance the vinegar’s nutrient-rich properties.
Coconut vinegar is great for dressings and marinades. I’m excited to experiment more with my savory dishes. Apple cider vinegar has also gained popularity in cleanses and skin/beauty regimens; you can also use coconut vinegar for these purposes as well. For example, place 1/2 tablespoon of coconut vinegar and a cup of cold water in a bottle and rinse your hair with it after shampooing a few times a week to increase body and shine.
You can find Coconut Secret’s coconut aminos and coconut vinegar at your local health food store or purchase it conveniently online through Amazon.
Expect more recipes that include coconut aminos and coconut vinegar from me. I can’t get enough of these products; they make cooking raw foods exciting and naturally delicious.
Disclosure: Coconut Secret provided me with sample products, but as always, all opinions are my own. However, I was using their coconut aminos in my recipes long before I received any sample products.
